Socrative in the Classroom

Example History PreUnit Quiz On the Civil War

Socrative is a very useful tool to have in the classroom. It allows a teacher to build a test to whatever they need from the test and then give it directly to the students online. While the students take the test, the teacher receives live feedback on how each student is doing on each question and how the class is doing overall.

Some Pros of Socrative would be -

  • Live feedback is given on each question so a teacher knows how each student is grasping the information. This helps a teacher adjust so that they can make sure that everyone is getting the material.

  • Socrative is very simple to understand and use to build a quiz which makes it easy to create one that fits any course.

Some Negatives of Socrative are -

  • In order to build more than five quizzes with Socrative, you need to pay for premium which is ninety dollars a year which is very steep.

  • Socrative is also very limited to multiple choice quizzes which makes it hard to give variety. Also, multiple choice isn't always the best gauge of a person's knowledge so there needs to be caution with that.

I would use Socrative to help me gauge my student's knowledge throughout the course of the unit. It will never be a tool that they are graded through, but it will help me make sure that I am getting information through to them and that they are taking it in. If not, then I can adjust my lessons to help them get a better grasp of the information so that I don't leave any students behind.
